REVIEWS BY READERS OF KIJABE ============================ From: CMullikin@compuserve.com (Charlotte Mullikin) Hey I finished your book and loved it! After the trial is when it really hooked me and I could not quit reading. The first part was your fathers work and then after the trial you wrote and it was great. What a surprise ending and very believable. The problem I have now for our question and answer time is I was so into reading the book I quit writing down my questions so I have to go back through and finish my list. ========================================================= Congratulations, I could not put the book down once I started. Firstly, what an eye catching Web Site, even caught my manager's eye as he was passing my desk. What a lot of research has gone ionto this book. You have caught the integral part of "Our Africa". Avtar Gill ======================================================= You share a remote part of the world and a remote history with readers. K. Schuler ========================================= Dr R.Wimalasundera (r.wimalasundera@ic.ac.uk) from London, UK 14 June, 2000 This is a excellent historical novel As a non-Kenyan, I was impressed by this first novel of Pally Dhillon. It is an excellent historical saga and draws you into the adventures and traumas of an Indian pioneer in untamed Africa. Dhillon also broadened my knowledge of the intricacies of the Sikh religion and intrigued me with the snippets of Kenyan tribal culture. Overall this was a very entertaining read incorporating a historical novel with a murder mystery and I would recommend it to everyone ========================================= 6/5/00 4:06:28 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: CMullikin@compuserve.com (Charlotte Mullikin) Hey your web site is terrific! Like the animation and the articles are interesting. Enjoyed reading Kijabe..fantastic !!. ========================================= Reviewer: Dan Zanotti (see more about me) from Hershey, Pennsylvania I first read Kijabe as an advance release. I was skeptical at first, not having a deep knowledge of Sikh and African history. However, ten minutes in the book I became engrossed by the deep cultural overtones, the family secrets and the struggles of immigrants to succeed in a new land. Author Pally Dhillon details the life of immigrant workers and family members as the "new" Africa was formed. His Sikh background and family history obviously formed the basis of this exciting tale, but his storytelling ability and colorful twists on true events make the book entertaining. Readers with an interest in the Sikh culture, African development and dramatic family sagas will find this book quite appealing and difficult to put down. Hopefully, Mr. Dhillon will continue to capture our imaginations with similar works in the future. ========================================= Pally, Listened to your interview on the radio, it came across extremely well. The Interviewer made a good recommendation. Are you still signing books at Harrods. Gush ========================================= Pally, I just finished reading KIJABE, I couldn't put it down. I have always wondered what life was like in Kenya and your book makes me feel like I am sitting right there. The love story is great and I really enjoyed the language - It's fun to see how much of my Punjabi is really Swahili. I have been talking to my friends and encouraging them to read it.
